Environment & Energy
Effective climate action isn’t just about mitigating threats. It’s also about advancing global environmental justice, renewable energy resources, and economic opportunity to create fair, resilient, sustainable, and secure societies. Abt Global develops inclusive, evidence-based, and impactful climate solutions in partnership with governments, the private sector, and communities on the frontlines of climate change. Our multidisciplinary approach helps our clients confront climate change at the necessary speed and scale while restoring our natural world and responding to an existential threat to the planet. We also aggressively reduce greenhouse gas emissions within our own operations, supply chain, and products and services as we head toward our own net zero emission goal.
Our Approach and Results
Abt applies a climate lens across sectors, from clean energy and circular economy solutions to improving air and water quality and building climate-resilient food and health systems. We co-design policies for countries to meet their Paris Agreement commitments, build methane capture solutions for clean energy, and help U.S. Tribal Organizations win grants for climate and environmental projects.

Circular Economy & Waste
Inadequate solid waste management threatens human health and the environment—and represents a missed economic opportunity to create jobs and recover the value of discarded materials. Abt Global works with clients to promote a circular economy—a systematic approach to reduce the health, environmental, social, and economic impacts of solid waste through the design of restorative and regenerative materials, products, systems, and business models. We align our clients' resource management strategies with key principles of sustainable consumption and production. We also integrate environmental justice, environmental and economic sustainability, and equity concerns into the design and implementation of circular economy projects.
Clean Air, Water & Land
Clean air, water, and land are fundamental to sustaining ecosystems, supporting human health, fostering biodiversity, and ensuring economic prosperity. Abt Global is at the forefront of sustainable solutions, shaping quality standards, regulations, and policies that protect human health and the environment. We design cutting-edge tools and models that monitor greenhouse gas emissions and help quantify public health effects from air pollution. We are leaders in methane mitigation, developing solutions at the nexus of solid waste, methane, and health. We have extensive experience with evaluating water quality impacts and addressing contamination caused by chemical compounds like per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) at the federal, state, and community level. We are champions of a circular economy approach to solid waste management. Our multidisciplinary expertise in data analysis, regulatory support, toxicology, policy development, and environmental and human health informs tailored sustainable solutions for our clients that address immediate environmental challenges and foster a healthier and more prosperous future for communities worldwide.
Disaster Risk & Emergency Management
Abt Global’s experts provide sustainable, resilient, and equitable disaster relief and emergency preparedness solutions to protect human health and wellbeing, as well as the environment. Oue economists, scientists, engineers, and communicators partner with government agencies and communities to prevent, address, and reduce environmental emergencies such as toxic releases and wastes from industries and municipalities. We lower barriers to climate and disaster risk finance and boost investments in the resilience of various sectors, including energy and agriculture. We facilitate informed decision-making through climate information services and early warning systems. From analyzing regulatory and policy options, to characterizing historical contamination , to evaluating resilience and response activities, we collaborate with clients and communities to meet their needs.
Energy, Infrastructure & Transportation
In the face of climate change and complex energy transitions, Abt Global supports and invests in solutions for clean energy, resilient infrastructure, and sustainable transportation. We mitigate methane emissions. We electrify health facilities. We conduct thorough environmental and economic policy analyses. We facilitate green investments. We lead the industry in measuring and modeling greenhouse gas emissions and helping countries meet their climate commitments. With our collaborators--governments, utilities, investors, developers, and communities--we facilitate just energy transitions, establish circular economies, decarbonize infrastructure and industry, improve energy efficiency, and advance low emission development. We set these same goals for ourselves to help build a sustainable, equitable future for all.
Environmental Research, Assessment & Restoration
Our natural environment has exceptional capacity to revitalize and renew. But as injuries to natural resources accumulate—from oil spills to climate change degradation—today’s communities and decision makers need the knowledge and tools to assess them and implement ecological restoration.
Abt Global leads and innovates Natural Resource Damage Assessments (NRDAs), restoration planning, and related environmental science. We have assisted federal, state, and Tribal clients with scientific, legal, and strategic support on more than 150 NRDA cases.
Nature & Biodiversity
Nature and biodiversity support critical ecosystems services: regulating climate, providing clean air and water, protecting coastlines, and supporting livelihoods and cultural activities. Abt Global works with partners around the world to protect, restore, and sustain the habitats, natural resources, and species that people rely on. Together, we restore ecosystems exposed to oil or hazardous substances; improve resilience and address climate risks; repair habitats degraded by improperly designed infrastructure; protect mangroves, seagrass and aquatic carbon sinks; catalyze investments in the blue economy; and advance nature-based carbon markets. We tailor our approach to local, environmental, and cultural needs, and co-develop nature and biodiversity solutions with the communities whose intimate knowledge of their land and ecosystem are at the heart of meaningful and sustainable conservation and adaptation measures.
