Expanding Our Impact

Abt has successfully implemented health programs in Jordan for the past 21 years. Our work includes improving the quality of primary health care in the country, upgrading health facilities, building health management information systems, saving lives through low-cost technology, and engaging and empowering communities through social and behavior change communication, advocacy, and policy initiatives. Abt works with the government of Jordan to enhance its capacity and support its commitment to achieving self-reliance. The five-year Abt-led USAID Jordan Communication, Advocacy, and Policy Activity’s (2014-2019) increased the use and continuation of reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health, including nutrition, services as safe, effective, and acceptable ways to ensure a healthy family, build a sustainable community, and maintain a secure Jordan. The five-year Abt-led USAID Health Service Delivery (2016-2021) improves health outcomes for women of reproductive age and children under the age of five, including Syrian refugees living in Jordanian host communities, through increasing access to and improving the quality of integrated reproductive, maternal, neonatal, and child health services, including nutrition, non-communicable diseases and gender-based violence.

LHSS

The Abt-led Local Health System Sustainability (LHSS) Project in Jordan supports the Government of Jordan’s efforts to institutionalize a mandatory continuing professional development system to improve health care professionals’ competencies to deliver quality health services. In light of COVID-19, LHSS in Jordan also assists the government’s COVID-19 preparedness and response efforts, ultimately working to leave Jordan with a stronger health system that is better prepared to address future health emergencies.
