Dr. Nduka Iwuchukwu

Director of Integrated Vector Control Programming, PMI Evolve

Bio

Nduka Iwuchukwu is a Medical Doctor with more than 30 years of experience in clinical care, public health, safety, environment, and innovation management. He has provided technical assistance on vector control interventions to National Malaria  Programs in Nigeria, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, and Guatemala. He has developed several innovations in malaria vector control including indoor residual spraying (IRS) supervision and monitoring tools, field operational protocols, and novel designs for implementing community-based IRS operations.

Iwuchukwu is currently the director of integrated vector control programming for the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) Evolve Project, which launched in April 2023. PMI Evolve supports PMI and USAID missions and bureaus with the planning, implementing, and monitoring of malaria vector control programs. Iwuchukwu supervises four senior management staff who are responsible for strengthening the capacity of local institutions, including national malaria programs in 21 countries, to conduct vector control programs that include indoor residual spraying, the distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets, and larval source management.

Iwuchukwu previously served as the chief of party for the PMI VectorLink Project in Zambia, and prior to that, for the PMI Africa Indoors Residual Spraying (AIRS) projects in Tanzania and Nigeria. He also worked as an AIRS regional operations advisor and operations manager, providing subject matter expertise on IRS planning and implementation.

Prior to joining Abt, Iwuchukwu was executive director for Environment and Health Nigeria Ltd., which implemented turn-key health and environment projects for governments and private sector clients such as the Wildlife Hazards Assessment of the four major international airports in Nigeria (Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt). The assessment report led to the successful certification of the four airports by the International Civil Aviation Organization.
