Kate Greene is a project director with extensive experience in planning and implementing complex donor-funded health programs in health systems, global health security, human resources for health, and HIV/AIDS. Her diverse experience includes managing and overseeing health professional regulation and accreditation activities in Cote d’Ivoire, Eswatini, Haiti, and Jordan; designing and managing Ebola preparedness efforts in Guinea; and providing technical oversight to Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) initiatives in Cote d’Ivoire, including the development of the country’s first National Health Security Plan.
Currently, Greene leads the design and implementation of health systems activities in Jordan on the USAID Local Health Systems Sustainability (LHSS) project. She supports a field team of more than 20 staff members focused on assisting the Jordanian government’s response to COVID-19 by strengthening the health workforce, diagnostic systems, and health policy interventions. Results include a new public-private partnership to scale up a Ministry of Health contact tracing call center and increasing COVID-19 diagnostic capacity across the country. This COVID-19 work also feeds into a longer-term activity to establish a continuing professional development system linked to license renewal for health professionals. Greene also serves as a subject matter expert on health workforce, advising Abt teams across Central Asia, Colombia, and Timor Leste.
Prior to joining the LHSS project, Greene led human resources for health activities on the USAID Health Finance and Governance project, including strengthening accreditation processes for private nursing schools and supporting the development of the first national health workforce strategy in Haiti. She also launched diabetes and hypertension programs in partnership with state governments in India and Brazil, including the selection of local grantees to build health workforces competencies in screening and treatment through Medtronic Foundation’s HealthRise project.
