Through the LHSS Project, USAID is strengthening the Dominican Republic’s capacity to expand access to high-quality HIV services. This work supports the country’s commitment to reach the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS 95/95/95 targets by 2030.

Expanding Our Impact

From improving health to increasing farm income, Abt helps improve the quality of life and economic well-being of people in the Dominican Republic. Abt works on a variety of critical health issues.

Building on the government’s progress toward ending HIV by 2030, the Abt-led USAID Local Health System Sustainability Project (LHSS) works with local partners to strengthen community and mobile HIV service delivery, improve supply chain management for HIV products, and promote quality treatment and care. LHSS supports the country’s COVID-19 response, accelerating equitable delivery of vaccinations and training health care staff to manage patients with respiratory disease.

We also worked with the Ministry of Health to enable hospital teams to understand their needs and respond to problems. And the Abt-led Zika AIRS Project conducted indoor residual spraying to reduce Zika’s spread. On the economic front, an Abt team worked with farmers to diversify their crops and increase food security.
