Abt Global Awarded Nearly $2 Million in Contracts to Monitor Flu Vaccine Coverage for Healthcare Providers and Pregnant Women
Rockville, Md. – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has awarded Abt Global nearly $2 million in contracts to monitor flu vaccine coverage for two critical groups: healthcare providers (HCPs) and pregnant women.
One contract, worth up to $1.1 million, is for Abt to conduct annual surveys of HCPs to monitor their flu vaccination coverage. Abt, which has conducted this survey for the past eight years, is recognized for its expertise in this area. Vaccination is an important way to keep HCPs healthy so they can treat patients and reduce the incidence of flu infection. The survey also will assess vaccine-related knowledge, attitudes, behaviors and barriers among HCPs, which will help CDC identify opportunities for adjustments in strategies to improve vaccination uptake.
Separately, the CDC awarded Abt a contract, valued at up to $720K, to conduct similar annual surveys of pregnant women in the U.S. to monitor flu vaccination coverage. Abt has done this work for the past nine years. Abt also conducted a CDC-sponsored study of 2 million pregnant women hospitalized in Australia, Canada, Israel and the United States from 2010 to 2016 that showed the benefits of flu vaccination for this population. The study of women hospitalized for acute respiratory illnesses or fevers and tested for influenza showed that the vaccine was effective in reducing the risk of hospitalization from flu.
