Abt Global Part of Team to Track Long-Term COVID-19

Body

Rockville, Md.  –  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has awarded Abt Global a five-year contract to serve as the data coordinating center for surveillance of post-COVID-19 conditions (PCC). PCC may include fatigue, shortness of breath, chest pain, aching joints, incident depression, and difficulty thinking or concentrating (“brain fog”). A team of public health, academic, and healthcare partners will assist the CDC in assessing PCC’s burden and impact in diverse populations through surveillance and long-term follow-up. The project will also explore risk factors for the development, resolution, and prevention of PCC.

As the coordinating center, Abt will ensure standardized data collection across the sites and serve as a data repository. The project’s goals are to increase the ability to provide complete, timely, and high-quality PCC surveillance data; identify populations at risk for PCC; promote data exchange and use of data among public health agencies and collaborators; and improve monitoring of PCC trends.

“Data coordinating centers play a crucial role in multi-site research, and Abt is a leader in this space, “ said Dr. Danielle Hunt, Abt’s principal investigator and vice president, Public Health Portfolio. “With our decade of experience leading data coordinating center activities, CDC relies on us to improve the exchange, quality, and timeliness of data, all of which are critical for public health decision-making.”
