The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Candidate Assessment of Performance (CAP) is designed to assess the overall readiness of teacher candidates. The state wants to identify best practices, tailor guidelines and programmatic supports, and develop tools and resources to improve the implementation of CAP and better prepare teacher candidates for the workforce.
The Massachusetts Partnership for Educator Effectiveness Research (PEER), a partnership between the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and Abt, is evaluating the implementation of CAP. To identify successes and challenges, Abt is examining implementation practices, developing resources, and tools, and measuring stakeholder perceptions, and across the state's education preparation programs.
Abt’s research will help Massachusetts education leaders understand the implementation strategies that yield stronger results. That will help ensure that new teachers enter Massachusetts classrooms ready to make an impact with their students on their first day of teaching.
